Alec Baldwin blamed a garbage truck the "size of a whale" for causing him to crash his wife's Range Rover into a "big, fat tree" on Monday afternoon, October 13, in the Hamptons. The 67-year-old actor and his younger brother Stephen Baldwin were driving on Montauk Highway in East Hampton when their vehicle struck a tree on the side of the road.

Both brothers, who grew up an hour outside the Long Island area, emerged from the incident unharmed. Taking to Instagram Monday night, the elder Baldwin explained what led to the collision while driving Hilaria Baldwin's white Range Rover.

"To avoid hitting him, I hit a tree, I hit a big, fat tree and crushed my car - my wife's car. I crushed my wife's car. I feel bad about that. But it's all fine, I'm fine, and my brother's fine," he said in the video, offering a brief acknowledgement of the damage.

The actor described the garbage truck that allegedly cut him off as being exceptionally large, emphasizing its whale-like proportions multiple times during his explanation.

Photos obtained by The Post showed a National Waste Services garbage truck remained at the scene following the crash.

Baldwin's video statement alternated between discussing the accident and recapping his weekend at the Hamptons International Film Festival, which concluded Sunday night. He devoted a significant portion of the video to congratulating fellow chairs and members of the Board Executive Committee involved in organizing the festival.

The actor made sure to thank East Hampton Police Department responders, singling out "Officer Gerken" for his assistance.

"As nice as can be, as pleasant as can be about the whole thing," Baldwin said of the officer's demeanor.

Baldwin also included what appeared to be damage control directed at his wife, 41-year-old Hilaria Baldwin, whose pristine vehicle was totaled in the incident.

"Hilaria, I love you more than anything. I'm very proud of you," he stated in the video.

The actor mentioned upcoming travel plans to visit family on the West Coast, seemingly teasing content for his reality television show.

"I'm going to LA to see my family, can't wait. I'm going out to California to gather my family, to spend a few days there and then I'm home," he said.
