OVER 100 car charging points will be installed at 33 Bradford locations in a bid to offer more options for electric vehicle users.

Many of the chargers will be installed in locations where there is little off street parking, making it difficult for people to make the switch to EVs.

Blink Charging has been selected to deliver the first phase of West Yorkshire's Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) programme.

The scheme uses funds that the WYCA have secured from Government to expand electric vehicle charging infrastructure availability, and the first phase will see 104 charging bays at 33 sites in Bradford. The majority of these will be on-street.

The Telegraph & Argus has asked for details on where the bays will be located, but has yet to receive a response.

Although there have been numerous EV charging stations installed across the District in recent years, many have been located in car parks of shops or restaurants rather than in or around residential areas.

This first phase will be funded using £282,000 secured by Bradford Council and West Yorkshire Combined Authority, as part of a successful joint bid to the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles, with additional private investment of approximately £229,000 being provided by Blink.

Over the entire three stage programme Bradford Council will support the provision of up to 1,000 charging points over 230 locations across the district.

These will be a mix of on-street and off-street chargers, in places where options for charging are currently limited. There will also be a focus on including more accessible chargers for disabled users.

The Bradford locations focus on areas with limited off-street parking and will use a "Blink Charger" app, with pricing controlled West Yorkshire wide.

Councillor Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council's Executive Member for Healthy People and Places, said: "Bradford Council are continuing to take steps forward to ensure that there is adequate cost-effective charging facilities in the network to accommodate the growth in Electric Vehicle ownership and use.

"The LEVI scheme will provide new charge points across the district over three phases. There are no financial implications on the council's budget, the investment in Electric Vehicle Charging will fully funded from grants provided by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero and the LEVI Capability Fund.
