CLEVELAND -- Cleveland police say 10 people -- most of them juveniles -- were arrested Sunday after a string of vehicle break-ins and car thefts that stretched across the city.

Officers first responded around 7:30 a.m. to reports of multiple vehicle break-ins at the Hilton Garden Inn on Carnegie Avenue, where at least 24 cars were damaged. As the investigation unfolded, additional break-ins were reported near East 14th Street and Euclid Avenue and as far east as East 120th Street and Mayfield Road, police said.

Detectives from multiple districts, working with the Real Time Crime Center, identified a broader pattern and determined suspects were using at least two stolen vehicles to carry out the crimes. License plate reader cameras helped track the cars as they moved throughout the city.

During the spree, suspects stole additional vehicles -- including one on Columbus Road -- before abandoning some and taking others. Police say the group's actions endangered both the community and officers responding to the incidents.

With assistance from the Aviation Unit, K-9 officers, and multiple police districts, detectives located and arrested the suspects at a vacant apartment building in the 2600 block of Loop Avenue, where they had been hiding. Three firearms were recovered at the scene.

Those arrested include nine juveniles -- ages 12 to 17 -- from Cleveland, Richmond Heights, and Maple Heights, and an 18-year-old woman from Akron. Six of the juveniles were taken to the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Detention Center, while the adult suspect was booked into the county jail.

Potential charges include breaking and entering, receiving stolen property, grand theft of motor vehicles, tampering with evidence, obstructing justice, and having weapons under disability, according to police.

"It is both deeply troubling and unacceptable to see teenagers engaging in such audacious and disruptive criminal behavior," Cleveland Police Chief Dorothy Todd said in a statement. "The scale of the damage inflicted is significant, and our investigation is ongoing. What the public can take confidence in is this: arrests have been made, and those responsible will face the full weight of the justice system."

Police said the total number of vehicles involved is still being determined as additional victims come forward.
