Two people were taken to hospital after reportedly being sprayed with an unknown substance in a Warrington village on Thursday.

A large emergency service presence was reported in the centre of Lymm following reports of the incident at around 12.30pm.

A number of Cheshire Police vehicles were in attendance as officers closed Eagle Brow, with ambulances and paramedics from North West Ambulance Service also present.

A fire engine from Stockton Heath Fire Station was also dispatched to the scene, although Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that its services were not required.

In a statement on Thursday, Cheshire Police confirmed that the large presence was due to reports of two people being sprayed by an unknown substance in a row over a parking space with another driver.

In an update today, Monday, a force spokesman confirmed that a 45-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

"He remains in custody at the current time," the spokesman said, adding that those taken to hospital 'did not suffer serious injuries'.

Cheshire Police previously said: "On Thursday, October 9, police received reports from ambulance crews of a possible road rage incident in Lymm.

"At 12.30pm it was reported that two individuals were in a vehicle on Eagle Brow when they were involved in a disagreement with the driver of a silver car over a parking space.

"During the incident, the driver of the silver car is reported to have sprayed the two occupants of the other vehicle with an unknown substance.

"They have since been taken to hospital. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
