Ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, at least four ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) MLAs and Ministers had to face people's wrath in the State because of their "non-performance", following which they were forced to leave the place during their visits.

Later, an FIR was lodged by some of them against local people, but the video of them fleeing from the scene, huffing and puffingwent viral on social media.

Kedar Prasad Gupta, Panchayati Raj Minister and BJP MLA from Kurhani constituency in Muzaffarpur district, had gone to Jhitki village in his constituency to inaugurate a newly constructed road under the government's ambitious Seven Resolves (Saat Nishchay) programme.

Locals complained that the road showed signs of breaking apart much before its inauguration.. The Minister's security personnel safely whisked him away from the programme.

The second incident happened recently when Minister for Urban Development and Housing Jibesh Kumar Mishra, BJP MLA from Jale constituency, was caught on camera abusing local YouTuber Diwakar Sahani when he allegedly asked the Minister about the "bad condition" of the road at Rampatti village under Singhwara police station in Darbhanga district. The Youtuber-cum-journalist in a viral video was seen saying: "They (the Minister and his associates) first did not say anything but when I asked again they not only abused me but, also tore my clothes and thrashed me."

Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly and Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav reached Darbhanga the following day and took the Youtuber to Singhwara police station to lodge a complaint against the Minister and others. Before going to Darbhanga, the RJD leader had played a purported video at a press meet held at his residence in Patna and demanded "action" against the Minister. Mr. Yadav also referred to a recent Rajasthan court order in which Mr. Mishra was held guilty of involvement in manufacturing spurious medicines that he had claimed as false and fabricated.

Earlier, on August 28, senior JD(U) leader and Minister Shrawan Kumar, MLAs from Nalanda, was caught on camera escaping from Malawa village in Hilsa block of his constituency. Mr. Shrawan is considered close to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and hails from the latter's home district of Nalanda. He is currently Rural Development and Parliamentary Affairs Minister in Mr. Kumar's cabinet.

The incident happened when the Minister along with his other associates had gone to attend a prayer meeting-cum-ritual in the village organised for eight villagers, including seven women, who had died in a road accident involving an auto-rickshaw and a truck on August 23.

In the viral video, the Minister was seen running along with another person by lifting his loincloth in his hand while the crowd was chasing him with bamboo in their hands. The villagers were said to be angered over the Minister's "delayed visit and lack of sensitivity" towards the victims' family. "He did not announce any compensation to the victims' family," the infuriated villagers claimed.

Similarly, BJP MLA from Bisfi, Haribhushan Thakur 'Bachaul' was heckled by irate villagers on August 29 when he had gone to Rahika village in Madhubani district for not doing any development work. The MLA, later, lodged an FIR against Asif Ahmed, son of local Opposition RJD Rajya Sabha MP Faiyaz Ahmed and others for "orchestrating" the incident against him. Earlier in March, the BJP MLA had made an appeal to Muslims to "stay indoor" on the occasion of Holi that triggered a controversy.
