Stop the stress and end-of-year procrastination with this simple trick. Plus, you can also start shopping for these items year round, so snag them when they're on sale and before the holiday shopping sprees start.

Gift list

Prevent the present predicament by keeping an ongoing list. Anytime your spouse, kids, sibling, friend or coworker mentions something they like, write it down!

Don't limit yourself to the obivous things either. In addition to the new shoes or bike they're explicitly asking for, make a note of the small things, too. Did they rave about the scent of the candle on your desk? Mention they're exploring a new hobby? Always seen with a specific snack in hand? Make a note of it.

Exactly where you write it is up to you. You can add it to the notes section in their contact card on your phone, store it in your notes app or jot it down in a Google doc. Having a digital copy on hand makes it easier to reference anytime the inspiration -- or sale -- hits.

If it's a list for your kids or family members, share the note with your partner so they can also contribute to it when they see or hear something or are at the store. And don't forget yourself! It is always a good idea to treat yourself.

Remember important details
