The Conquistador, a popular ride at Arlington's Six Flags Over Texas, is going away after more than 40 years.

The ride was one of the cornerstones of the Spain section of the park, which has been closed since last year due to construction of a "record breaking dive coaster" slated to open in 2026.

"After exploring multiple options, we have decided that the Conquistador has officially sailed its last voyage. Thank you to all our guests and team members who have shared countless memories aboard this iconic ride," the park wrote in a Facebook post announcing the permanent closure.

"While it's always hard to say goodbye, we're excited about the epic opportunities ahead," it continued.

Fans of the ride reacted in the comments of the post, with many calling the closure a "bad move," and others lamenting the loss of a ride they called a "core memory."

"This was always the first ride we rode, it set the mood and has been a tradition of ours for over 20 years," wrote one commenter.

"Getting to scream as loud as possible when the ride operator told each side to compete in a screaming contest [was] super fun," wrote another.

The park doesn't have a date yet for when it will remove the ride, the company said in an email, clarifying that it will depend on the construction timeline for the rest of the section.

Six Flags Over Texas was the partial beneficiary of an ambitious company-wide spending plan totaling $1 billion, after the Six Flags parent company merged with Cedar Fair last year.

In addition to the new coaster, the Hurricane Harbor water park was outfitted with a new play structure with multiple new slides and more than 100 water features.
