Lai Chau (VNA) - A delegation of the northern mountainous province of Lai Chau on October 12 held talks with a delegation from Laos' Oudomxay province led by Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Governor Vongsavanh Saynhavong.

Chairman of the Lai Chau provincial People's Committee Le Van Luong proposed the two localities strengthen friendship exchanges, and share information and experiences in apparatus streamlining and administrative restructuring; enhance economic cooperation; and promote cultural collaboration through joint organisation of people-to-people and cultural exchange activities to showcase the unique cultural features of each side.

The two provinces should boost tourism development, encourage and facilitate cooperation between businesses to establish tourism routes from Lai Chau to Oudomxay and vice versa; and continue to coordinate in improving the quality of human resources training in line with their actual conditions, he added.

Vongsavanh Saynhavong stated that similarities in culture, foreign and ethnic affairs are conditions and opportunities for both sides to have substantive exchanges and cooperation in the coming time.

Lai Chau's experience in administrative reform, decentralisation, apparatus streamlining, and technology application in management serves as a valuable lesson for Oudomxay to study and apply in accordance with its own practical conditions, he said, believing that this meeting not only contributes to strengthening cooperation between the two localities but also continues to reaffirm the special friendship and close solidarity between Vietnam and Laos.

The two sides also shared experience in decentralising management between the province and communes to ensure that tasks are carried out smoothly, promptly, with high quality and efficiency, and to handle issues in a timely manner right from the grassroots level./.
