More areas in the New Forest are set to start use wheelie bins and food waste recycling caddies for their rubbish collections in October.

Collection days may change for residents living in the Phase Two area of the new waste and recycling collection services, which includes Bransgore, Fordingbridge and Ringwood, New Forest District Council has warned.

Wheelie bins and food waste recycling caddies will be used from October 20, where food waste will be collected weekly and general waste and recycling will be taken on alternate weeks.

A letter sent to residents will tell them if their collection day has been changed.

Councillor Geoffrey Blunden, portfolio holder for environment and sustainability, said: "Our new waste and recycling collection service begins for our Phase Two residents next week, bringing improved recycling opportunities to around 15,000 more homes across the New Forest.

"The second phase of this rollout marks another important milestone in our commitment to improving how we manage waste and recycling across the district.

"By introducing wheelie bins and food waste caddies, we're not only making collections more efficient for the long term, but also helping residents to recycle more and reduce the amount of waste being thrown away."

The first phase of the rollout was heavily criticised by residents, with one from Brockenhurst calling the scheme "thoughtless, wasteful and in breach of care" in a council meeting on August 28.

Cllr Blunden continued: "We've taken on board feedback from Phase One and made adjustments to improve the service further, including increasing staffing, updating route planning, and refining guidance for pannage areas.

"While we know there have been some challenges, I want to thank residents for their patience and understanding. We remain committed to resolving any issues and ensuring the service runs smoothly for all our residents in every phase."

Residents are being encouraged by New Forest District Council to begin filling their food waste caddies, general waste bins and recycling bins straight after their final sack collection.

A leaflet delivered to the areas affected shows what can go in which bin and on what day.
