Hagerstown Police said one of two recent crashes involving a County Commuter bus was caused by another vehicle.

An Oct. 8 crash involving a County Commuter bus and a Nissan at Dual Highway and Eastern Boulevard was caused when the Nissan committed a traffic violation, according to an email from Sgt. Kevin Brashears, spokesperson for Hagerstown Police.

The Hagerstown Fire Department previously reported that HFD crews responded to that crash at 5:40 p.m. and it involved a County Commuter bus and a passenger car.

The bus was off the roadway into a guardrail.

All passengers exited the bus prior to the arrival of fire and EMS.

The crash was one of two that Wednesday, Oct. 8, that involved separate County Commuter buses.

Brashears said he did not yet have information about the cause of the earlier crash that day on North Potomac Street.

The bus struck a wall and three parked cars, Brashears wrote.

Public works officials also responded since the bus struck the wall along the street, he said.

Hagerstown Fire Chief John DiBacco previously said crews responded to the 200 block of North Potomac at 12:22 p.m. for the crash involving a County Commuter bus.

The bus ended up on the sidewalk wedged between a parked car and with the bus' right side against a retaining wall.

County Commuter buses are part of the public transit system run by Washington County government.

Washington County government spokesperson Danielle Weaver said on Oct. 9 that the driver in the earlier incident -- the one along North Potomac Street -- was taken to the hospital and had since been released.

Everyone else involved in both incidents was able to exit the buses unassisted, Weaver has said.
