Checked midi skirts are officially back - and yes, they're cooler than you remember. Once reserved for school uniforms and preppy throwbacks, the heritage style is getting a fashion-forward refresh this season.

So, how will we wear it? Our best advice is to let the skirt take centre stage. The easiest and most convincing pairing is a chunky knit - think cable-knit crew necks or brushed cashmere cardigan - tucked or semi-tucked into a checked midi. Finish the look with a pair of knee-high boots and you've got a polished, autumn-ready outfit.
