Actor detailed ordeal on Channel A's Close Friends Documentary 4-Person Table

Actor Jung Woong-in revealed a painful past of being scammed out of his entire fortune by a former manager.

On the 13th of last month, Jung appeared on the Channel A variety show Close Friends Documentary 4-Person Table and shared candid conversations with director Jang Hang-jun, his college classmate, and actor Song Seon-mi.

During the broadcast, Jung confessed why he left the sitcom Three Friends midway. He said, "At the time, I was doing Black and White with Park Soo-hong, but people kept calling me a comedian. I wanted to grow as an actor, but it hurt that they only saw me as a comedian. I had a strong desire to act. Looking back, I'm sorry to the viewers and my colleagues."

He added, "Even when I did comedy, I approached it seriously. I was always sincere about acting," sharing his philosophy as an actor.

Later, Jung recalled, "Around that time, I went through a period of stagnation," to which Jang interjected, "That's when you were scammed." Jung explained, "I met the wrong manager while filming the movie Circle. The project did well, so I bought a nice car. On my way home, I cried thinking of my father."

He continued, "But the manager took documents in my name and used the car as collateral for loans. After that, loan sharks started calling me. I even asked the film's director for the remaining payment, and in the end, I had to cover that debt myself. Notices were even posted on my house. Still, they put them on the back because I was famous," he said with a bitter smile.

Jung recounted, "When I finally went to retrieve the car, I knelt down and begged to have the debt forgiven. It was the first time in my life I knelt," evoking sympathy for his difficult past. /kangsj@osen.co.kr
