Krishnan Guru-Murthy is attempting to secure an interview with Vladimir Putin.

The Channel 4 News presenter is keen to grill the Russian president on a series of contentious matters. He revealed: "Putin has been at the top of my list for a long time. We have asked for an interview with him. We have never had him before. He would be the big one," the journalist went on. "To get him would be amazing."

Should Krishnan ever manage to interrogate Putin, he has no intention of pulling his punches. He declared: "You just go for it. You ask him the tough questions. You have to be fearless."

He added: "He's one of the most important people in the world. He's powerful and responsible for one of the great scars in geopolitics at the moment with the war in Ukraine; there is a lot to hold him to account for.", reports the Daily Star.

Krishnan maintains he wouldn't feel anxious about antagonising the former intelligence chief. He explained: "I've spent a lifetime interviewing powerful and potentially dangerous people. You can't worry. I wouldn't be scared about interviewing Putin. You can't do my job and be scared of anybody."

Krishnan has been a mainstay of Channel 4 News for decades, having initially kicked off his career on BBC children's programme Newsround back in 1991.

He subsequently presented the programme for three years, before developing his career and transitioning to programmes such as Newsnight where he worked as a correspondent. However, in 1998, he made the move to Channel 4 and has since become the second-longest serving presenter of the show, accumulating a host of significant moments across his career, including coverage of the September 11 attacks and the 7/7 bombings.

He was famously yanked off air after swearing at Northern Ireland minister Steve Baker in 2022, but was permitted back on the airwaves shortly afterwards.

Among his other memorable interviews was a 2013 conversation with Quentin Tarantino, who declined to answer a question about whether film violence is connected to real-life violence. Additionally, a notorious 2015 interview with Robert Downey Jr ended abruptly when the Hollywood star walked out mid-conversation.

Krishnan has also dabbled in other areas of television fame, having participated in Strictly Come Dancing in 2023. Paired with professional dancer Lauren Oakley, Krishnan's stint lasted seven weeks before they were voted off the popular BBC show.
