Prince Andrew surrendered his Royal titles a month after a tense confrontation with Prince William, in what marked their final public appearance together. The prince, formerly recognised as the Duke of York, stood down on Friday following pressure from King Charles and William amidst fresh controversy linked to Jeffrey Epstein.

Among his final public outings was the Duchess of Kent's funeral, where he sparked public attention by arriving at Westminster Abbey alongside his former wife, Sarah Ferguson.

After the service concluded, Andrew, 65, who has been mired in scandal, appeared to be ignored by William when he tried to strike up a conversation, allegedly leaving the heir to the throne "livid".

At the time, we enlisted respected lip reader Jeremy Freeman to examine the widely circulated footage on social media to establish precisely what was exchanged, reports the Mirror.

Andrew, observed chuckling and beaming whilst other senior royals looked more solemn, attempted to chat with William on multiple occasions. At one moment, he broke into a grin, but his nephew declined to acknowledge him.

The specialist disclosed that Andrew said to William: "... we had a lovely time in those days, didn't we... I remember those days."

Royal biographer Andrew Lownie subsequently told the Mirror that William was "furious" after being ambushed during the ceremony. He explained: "He has been at pains to distance himself from his uncle and not be photographed with him.

"He believes his father has not dealt with him with sufficient firmness and that Andrew - and Sarah Ferguson - have done much to undermine the good work of other members of the Royal Family."

Andrew, who also declared he would surrender his Order of the Garter honour, faced accusations of sexual abuse from Virginia Giuffre, one of Epstein's most high-profile victims. He has steadfastly refuted these claims.

After his titles were stripped last night, he declared: "In discussion with the King, and my immediate and wider family, we have concluded the continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family.

"I have decided, as I always have, to put my duty to my family and country first. I stand by my decision five years ago to stand back from public life.

"With His Majesty's agreement, we feel I must now go a step further. I will therefore no longer use my title or the honours which have been conferred upon me. As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me."

The couple received their titles following their marriage in 1986, and it has been verified that his ex-wife will also abandon her Duchess of York titles.

Though he won't be using the title, Andrew will retain his position as the Duke of York.
