A gangster film which has been praised as 'a masterpiece' is on ITV tonight, and film fans say it's 'a must see'.

Reservoir Dogs, released over three decades ago in 1992, follows a group of criminals known cryptically as Mr. White, Mr. Orange, etc., as they're hired for a diamond heist that goes disastrously wrong, forcing the survivors to regroup at a warehouse where paranoia, mistrust, and violence erupt as they try to uncover which of them is an undercover police informan.

The film, directed by Quentin Tarantino in his debut film, earned immediate praise from Hollywood and for its star cast of Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth, Chris Penn, Steve Buscemi, Lawrence Tierney, Michael Madsen and Edward Bunker.

The film has earned a cult status and has an impressive score of 90 percent on film and TV fan rating website Rotten Tomatoes. One review said: "Where it all began for Tarantino. This movie is so good it launched one of the most successful directing careers ever."

Another shared: "An extensive but contained story, with a great sense of rhythm, the foundations of what would be Tarantino's style are noticeable. All the performances are perfect except for MR. Brown's is better at directing and not a car apparently."

"Wild to have this big of a directorial smash this early in a career. Minus 15 minutes and it's a 10. Legendary cast of talent," said a third.

Another praised the lead actors as they wrote: "Reservoir Dogs stands as a beautifully written and filmed collection of scenes that actors likely dream of performing.

"However, trying to comprehend the central idea of the movie pulled me completely out of the experience, and made it just compelling scenes and not more.

"Amazing setting for a film that stayed mostly between the four walls of an old warehouse, the characters and their introductions are done brilliantly, with Tarantino choosing to drag dialogue out purposefully to play with the watcher's mind.

An interestingly early reveal of the undercover cop, but it plays out well, with the Wolf himself only finding out at the very end of the film, almost as though his knowledge (or lack of) is the only thing that matters. And the acting is so believable, top-tier by all," said another.
