The Mets continued the remaking of their coaching staff, hiring Troy Snitker to serve as a hitting coach, according to a source briefed on the situation who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly. Snitker, the son of former Atlanta manager Brian Snitker, had served as a hitting coach for the Houston Astros since 2019.

After a disappointing 83-79 season, the Mets dismissed the majority of their coaching staff, including both hitting coaches, Eric Chavez and Jeremy Barnes. New York had already promoted Jeff Albert to be its director of major-league hitting; Albert had previously served that role for the club's minor leagues.

Much like the Mets, the Astros folded late in the season, narrowly missed the postseason, and parted ways with many of their coaches. That included Snitker, who had shared hitting coach duties with Alex Cintrón.

It appears Snitker will work under Albert, given the latter's title. The Mets had deployed Chavez and Barnes as "co-hitting coaches," a dynamic that Chavez said after the fact should be avoided.

"You cannot have two co-hitting coaches, two voices," Chavez told The Athletic after his dismissal. "Ultimately, one person needs to have the voice."

Snitker and Albert join new bench coach Kai Correa as part of Carlos Mendoza's remade staff. The Mets still need to replace third-base coach Mike Sarbaugh, pitching coach Jeremy Hefner and assistant pitching coach Desi Druschel, who was hired by the Yankees over the weekend. Druschel had not been formally let go by the Mets, but he was permitted to speak with other teams while New York searches for a pitching coach. Bullpen coach José Rosado has also been given permission to speak with other organizations.

Additionally, while first-base coach Antoan Richardson has been invited back to the major-league staff, the two sides have not come to a formal renewal agreement.
