Eldest of 13, Nam Bo-ra shares family financial struggles on MBN show

The MBN variety program 'Venting Show Dongchimi,' broadcast on the 20th, discussed the topic 'Do You Know the Life of a K-Eldest Daughter?'

In this context, Nam Bo-ra, known as the eldest daughter of 13 siblings, shared her story, saying, "I was a beneficiary. Until 10 more siblings were born!"

He began, "My older brother and I truly received a lot of benefits. We attended private schools, and (my mother) was very active in parenting. She participated in all parent-teacher meetings and every event. If we asked for study materials, she provided them all. We attended academies and even learned Chinese characters. But then..."

When asked, "When did things start getting difficult?", Nam Bo-ra replied, "In the 4th grade of elementary school. That's when I transferred schools and the family started tightening the budget."

Kim Yong-man asked, "Which sibling was born when you were in the 4th grade?", and after briefly counting, Nam Bo-ra said, "If I remember correctly, it was the seventh sibling." She explained that the family began facing difficulties from the time the seventh sibling was born.

Upon hearing this, No Sa-yeon curiously asked, "Did you ever tell your mom and dad, 'Can't you please stop having babies?'", and Nam Bo-ra recalled, "I did. I said that. I don't want to take care of any more siblings. I said that when the 11th sibling was born. My mom didn't respond and we ended up welcoming the 12th sibling."

She continued, "At that time, the whole family truly treated the youngest as the last, raising them with the best of everything. We had never even seen a baby crib or a stroller, but they got the most expensive ones. It was the last one. But then the 13th sibling used them too. The 13th sibling was born when I was 20 years old. I welcomed a sibling upon entering university."

Particularly, Nam Bo-ra shared an episode: "I was worried and went to the hospital to check on my mom. I asked, 'Are you okay?' but her whole body was swollen and she wasn't doing well. Then she said, 'I thought I was going to die from frustration.' When I asked, 'Why while giving birth?', she replied, 'The head nurse was so incompetent. I ended up doing everything out of frustration.' My mom had given birth many times at that hospital. She had given birth to siblings from the 10th at that hospital, but this head nurse was new and probably didn't know what to do. Even while in labor, my mom kept saying, 'That's not it. Not now. Now!' She was directing the birth." This anecdote drew laughter.

Meanwhile, Nam Bo-ra, the eldest daughter among 8 brothers and 5 sisters, gained attention after appearing in MBC's 'Sunday Night -- Symphony of Angels' and KBS's 'Human Theater,' and then debuted as an actor. She later married a businessman of the same age in May of this year.
