Two familiar faces are returning to Basingstoke Bison to help lead the ice hockey team from behind the bench.

Tony Redmond and Dan Weller-Evans have been named as assistant coaches for the Basingstoke Bison's 2025/26 season, working alongside head coach Jeff Flanagan.

Mr Redmond, a Scottish-born former defenceman, is well known to Bison supporters, having previously served as assistant coach from 2018 to 2023.

After spending last season with the Bristol Pitbulls, he now returns to Basingstoke, bringing extensive experience and continuity to the coaching staff.

Mr Weller-Evans, a former Bison netminder and product of the club's junior system, joins as goaltending coach.

The Welsh-born goaltender spent much of his senior career with the Bison and recently gained coaching experience with the Berkshire Bees.

Mr Flanagan said: "Both Tony and Dan bring a focused coaching acumen to the Bison staff.

"Tony's experience as a player and a coach will be a massive asset, while Dan's experience and ability to work closely with our goaltenders ensure every area of the roster is supported.

"I'm excited to have them both on board as we prepare for the season ahead."

Mr Redmond's coaching journey began while playing for the Slough Jets and continued through his years with the Bison.

His knowledge of the league and player development is seen as vital to the club's ambitions for a successful season.

Mr Weller-Evans' return, this time in a coaching capacity, will provide Bison goaltenders with specialist training from someone who understands the club's culture and expectations.

Last season, he honed his coaching skills with the Berkshire Bees, and his new role is expected to further strengthen the Bison's backroom team.

The appointments complete a well-rounded and experienced coaching lineup, which the club believes will support the squad through the challenges of the upcoming campaign.

The Bison have invited fans to join them in welcoming Mr Redmond and Mr Weller-Evans to the off-ice team.

The team will be hosting a launch day on Saturday, August 30, from 2pm until 4pm at the Spruce Goose Beafeeater in Basingstoke.
