The number of candidates who are in the fray for the Jubilee Hills assembly seat has come down to 58 after withdrawal by 23 candidates who had filed nominations successfully on Friday.

On Thursday, the candidature of 81 persons received the stamp of approval out of a total of 211 candidates who filed their nominations.

Sharing the details through a media conference on Friday, Hyderabad District Election Officer R.V. Karnan informed that the 58 candidates will be seeking votes from 4,01,365 voters of the Jubilee Hills constituency -- 2,08,561 men, 1,92,779 women and 25 others.

When compared with the previous elections, there has been 1.61% increase in the number of voters in the constituency. Among those above 80 years of age, a total of 3,280 are men and 2,771 are women. Young voters at 18-19 years of age number at 6,106 and voters with disabilities at 1,891. A total of 95 are NRI voters.

The polling will be conducted with four ballot units and a VVPAT in each polling booth. Mr. Karnan has informed that all arrangements have been completed in the 407 polling stations at 139 locations in the constituency. Every polling station will have a voters' assistance booth and a mobile phone counter where voters may deposit their mobile phones before entering the station. No mobiles will be allowed inside the polling station.

For easy recognition, the ballot units will have photos of the candidates in colour, and voter slips will have the serial number and part number in larger print.

Static surveillance teams and flying squads, 15 each, have been continuously monitoring the run up to the elections. So far, ₹2.83 crore has been seized in cash and 512 litres of liquor worth ₹3.69 lakh has been confiscated. A total of 11 cases have been registered for violating the model code of conduct. Social media accounts have been kept under surveillance.

Mr. Karnan warned that legal action will be taken if political party representatives distribute the voter slips. Instead, booth level officers are tasked with the job.

Additional Commissioner of Police Tafseer Iqbal, addressing the meet, said paramilitary forces are arriving on October 27 for enhanced security in view of elections. Eight companies of paramilitary forces will be deployed at the 65 critical polling stations in the constituency.
