Danny Kruger today became the first sitting Conservative MP to defect to Reform UK.

The East Wiltshire MP's defection was unveiled at a press conference on Monday.

Reform leader Nigel Farage said Mr Kruger would head up his party's efforts to prepare for Government.

It is the latest in a string of defections from the Conservatives to Reform in recent months.

At Reform's conference this month, Mr Farage said more Tory ex-ministers would be joining following the defection of former culture secretary Nadine Dorries.

Ms Dorries, who served in Boris Johnson's government, joined Mr Farage on stage at Reform's gathering in Birmingham after declaring 'the Tory party is dead'.

She issued a rallying call for Conservative members to 'do the right thing' and copy her by switching to Reform.

Adam Holloway, Sir Jake Berry, Andrea Jenkyns, Marco Longhi, Ross Thomson, David Jones and Lee Anderson are other ex-Tory MPs who have joined Reform.

So who might be next?

Sir John Hayes

The ex-minister is a veteran Brexiteer on the right of the Tory party and is often tipped as someone who might be comfortable in Reform.

The South Holland and The Deepings MP has been an outrider for Suella Braverman, the former home secretary who is seen as another potential want-away.

The 67-year-old has been a Conservative MP since 1997 and was re-elected to his Lincolnshire seat with a near 7,000-vote majority over his Reform challenger last year.

Mark Francois

A former minister and chair of the powerful European Research Group, Mr Francois is currently on Kemi Badenoch's shadow frontbench.

His Essex constituency of Rayleigh and Wickford is near Mr Farage's Clacton seat, and they are known to get along.

However, Mr Francois is adamant he is 'not going anywhere'. He held his seat with a 5,600-vote majority over Reform at last year's general election.

Lord Frost

Nicknamed 'Frosty the No-man', Lord Frost was picked by Boris Johnson to lead negotiations with the Brussels over Brexit.

He was handed a peerage to join the Cabinet, but has become increasingly critical of the centre-right positions adopted by the Tories under successive leaders.

Earlier this year, the 60-year-old did not rule out standing for Reform at a future general election.

He told the Telegraph's Planet Normal podcast in May: 'I'm not emotionally committed to the Conservatives in the way that others are.

'I want the party that is going to do the job and get the job done, and let's see how that plays out.'

Suella Braverman

The former home secretary last week did not deny that she had been approached about defecting by figures within Reform.

Asked whether she had been approached, she said: 'I have a lot of friends in Reform. My husband was very recently a member of Reform.'

But, despite speaking at an event alongside Reform's deputy leader Richard Tice, Mrs Braverman insisted she was not planning to defect.

'I'm not defecting,' she said. 'I've been elected as a Conservative MP.'

Her husband, Rael Braverman, was a member of Reform but he quit the party in July .

It followed Reform's criticism of his wife over her immigration policies while at the Home Office.

Nadhim Zahawi

The former Conservative chairman stood down as an MP at last year's general election, but could he revive his political career with Reform?

The one-time Chancellor is a Brexiteer and was an ally of both Boris Johnson and Liz Truss.

He was sacked as Tory chairman in January 2023 when a probe found he had breached ministerial rules by failing to disclose he was being investigated by HMRC.

Robert Jenrick

The shadow justice secretary is one of the most energetic members of Mrs Badenoch's front bench.

He lost out to Mrs Badenoch for the Tory leadership and has been claimed by some to have continued a shadow campaign ever since.

The ex-immigration minister shares similar positions to Reform on the Channel migrant crisis and the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR).

But might he rather wait for another shot at being Conservative leader?
