MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - A new A320 final assembly line is ready for action at Airbus.

At Monday's unveiling ceremony, there was standing room only as mayors, congressmen, senators and top airbus leaders marked the grand occasion.

Congressman Shomari Figures (D), Alabama said, "This is Mobile. This is what we do. We can make it. We can build it. If you need stainless steel, we can make it. If you need a ship, we can build it. If you need planes, we can build it."

Airbus in Mobile assembles and delivers commercial aircraft. It's one of the largest employers in the state.

Now, with a third line, this makes Airbus the fourth largest aerospace manufacturer in the world and creates more jobs for the local economy.

Daryl Taylor, SVP, Commercial Aircraft Operations U.S. at Airbus said, "We've added over 1,000 jobs already just with this line and that's just the direct jobs. We've added several indirect jobs in suppliers and the amount of jobs in the construction phase and we still have 300-400 jobs to meet full capacity just on this line."

City and state leaders said this move really keeps Mobile and Alabama at top of mind when it comes to airplanes.

Sandy Stimpson, Mobile's mayor said, "There is a lot of pride in the hearts of people in this community in trying to make the very best products."

Christian Scherer, CEO, Commercial Aircraft of Airbus said, "We have huge confidence in the workforce here. It's been nothing but a positive experience in the 10 years we've been here and three lines in 10 years? If I'm not mistaken, that's a record."

The first plane that will be constructed on the new line is set to be ready in six weeks and will be delivered in early 2026 to United Airlines.

Airbus leaders said the A320 is the most popular commercial aircraft in the world right now.
