One of Surrey's biggest Bonfire Night events will return to a small countryside village this autumn. Once again, thousands of people will flock to Brockham Green just outside Dorking for an evening of seasonal fun and bright lights.

The huge community event which sees hundreds of volunteers help many weeks in the lead up to the spectacular family event, will not only feature a dazzling fireworks display and crackling bonfire, but also a torch lit procession through the gorgeous Mole Valley parish, live music, pig auction and food and drink stalls.

This year, the guy and an escort with burning torches will leave Brockham Green at 6pm and head north to the Avenue, Brockham Lane, before returning to Brockham Green at around 6.30pm.

Here it will combine with The Marching Sea Cadet Band and the main procession before heading south at 6.35pm.

The procession will return to the bonfire for lighting at 7.45pm. Torches will be handed out on Brockham Green and on the procession route to members of the public who want to join in.

Always held on the Saturday closest to November 5, this year, Brockham Bonfire will take place on Saturday November 8. As usual, entry will be free, donations are welcoming and parking will cost £10 per car (cash recommended).

Some local landowners will be providing car parking in fields around the village. Each car park will be numbered and well signposted. It is critical that emergency service vehicles always have clear access into the village so motorists should not park on highways, pavements or verges.

The walk to Brockham Green takes around 20 minutes on unlit country roads. The ground could be muddy or soft underfoot so suitable footwear is encouraged, as well as plenty of time to park and walk into the village.

Special buses are also being provided.

Road closures

Brockham Lane, Kiln Lane, the Borough Bridge, Old School Lane, Middle Street and Wheelers Lane will all close to all traffic at 5.30pm. This will mean that all the official road closures will come into force at the same time.

This year, for safety reasons the road across the Green may remain closed until at least 11pm.

Passes will only be issued to residents of Brockham who genuinely cannot get home from work before the road closures come into effect. They are not issued for any other reason.

As a result of donations, organisers give away around £20,000 every year to local organisations and good causes. Members of the public can sponsor a firework or make a donation at brockham.org/brockham-bonfire.
