Anna Hall won her first heptathlon world title with a stunning 6,888-point performance at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.

The 24-year-old, who was leading after four events on Day 1, capped the seven events with a 2:06.68s run over 800m on Saturday, the quickest time in the field.

She also threw personal bests in the javelin (48.13m) and shot put (15.80m), tied the best high-jump performance (1.89m), ran the second-quickest 200m time (23.50s) and the third-fastest 100m hurdles (13.05s).

Hall, who went third on the all-time list earlier this year when she broke 7,000pts in Gotzis, Austria, brings the U.S. its first world championship heptathlon gold since Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Hall's mentor, in 1993.

"It means so much," Hall told NBC Sports' Lewis Johnson. "Ever since I came on the circuit and won my first medal, that's been something I've been trying to do. Jackie and I have talked about it, and we were like, 'The USA does make great heptathletes.' It means the world to be able to bring the title back home where it belongs."

Hall was hampered by injuries last year and finished fifth at the Paris Olympics. She spent time working on improving in the throwing events, which showed this week.

"The last two years, I really struggled with injuries, as I think everybody saw in Paris," she said. "That entire time, I just put my head down and I worked. And we were working on my upper body, we were working on technical things. My body wasn't ready to have that show yet, but I'm so glad that I feel like that work is all paying off now."

Hall has now completed the world championship set and moved up on the podium in her three appearances -- bronze in Eugene in 2022, and silver in Budapest two years ago.

Ireland's Kate O'Connor produced the heptathlon of her lifetime, with a 6,714pts performance to take home the silver medal and set a national record. Her personal best before these championships was 6,487.

The 24-year-old improved five of her personal bests to give Ireland its first global heptathlon medal, her fourth medal this calendar year after finishing on the podium at the World Indoor Championships (silver, pentathlon), European Indoor Championships (bronze, pentathlon), and the World University Games (gold).

Defending champion Katarina Johnson-Thompson of Great Britain finished level with American athlete Taliyah Brooks on 6,581pts, a personal best for Brooks.

Those two share bronze, which gives Johnson-Thompson her fifth global mixed-event medal indoors and outdoors, and means the U.S. have two athletes on the world championship podium in this event for only the second time -- the first was Joyner-Kersee (gold) and Jane Frederick (bronze) in 1987.

Olympic champion Nafi Thiam of Belgium was expected to medal, but her coach pulled her out after the long jump due to injury. It is the first global heptathlon that Thiam, twice a world champion, has started but not finished since 2015.
