Today in college football news, "post a movie you like with a terrible Rotten Tomatoes score" was a fun trend. "Event Horizon" and "Hot Rod" for me.

Who is this year's Indiana? The short answer to that common question: There almost certainly isn't one. (More on that below.)

But maybe we mean something more modest, like, "Who will be this year's least-blueblood CFP participant?" In that case, we have several candidates, and this weekend will weed through quite a few of them.

One reason 2024's 11-2 Indiana was such a surprise: The Hoosiers had never won double-digit games before. With that in mind, according to Austin Mock's updated Playoff projections, here are the best 2025 CFP odds among power-conference teams that last had 10-win seasons 14 or more years ago:

You could extend that list all the way down to 2-1 Arkansas (1 percent) or even 3-0 Rutgers (<1 percent). Or, if you lowered the threshold to 13 years, you could add Nebraska (14 percent) and Texas A&M (42 percent), but those aren't exactly upstarts.

Here's another list. Among powers that haven't finished in the AP top five in the past 60 years:

Indiana (18 percent) just missed the cut by having finished No. 5 in 1967, so include the Hoosiers too. Honestly, Indiana making both of the first two 12-team Playoff fields would be as big a shock as anything else.

And of course we should mention Mock's top CFP odds among G5 teams:

Also, because we're talking as much about public perception as we are about team accomplishments, that final list could include teams that joined the power-conference level within the past 20 years, which means there are still people who think of them as Cinderellas despite their many big wins. Tops there: Utah (33 percent).

However we define it, look at how many of those bold-text Upstart Contenders have huge opportunities this weekend:

Beyond the CFP stuff, in terms of letting your eyeballs simply observe football, this is also a well-balanced and truly quadbox-worthy Saturday. Three must-monitor games in each time range, plus whatever is happening simultaneously in your team's conference, starting with the early round:

If you want the 2025 season to produce a version of 2024's miracle Hoosiers, there's only one team with a CFP shot that would fit that underdog bill.

Not 3-0 Illinois, which entered the season as AP No. 12 -- far, far, far too high to be a 2024 Indiana comp. Not 3-0 Cal, the program of Aaron Rodgers and Marshawn Lynch. Not 3-0 NC State, which has been somewhere between Mid and Pretty Decent roughly nine years per decade forever.

As noted above, Vanderbilt has never had a 10-win season before, with only two nine-win seasons (both by James Franklin during the SEC East's flop era) in the past 110 years. Vandy's historical winning percentage in the SEC (.250) is even lower than Indiana's in the Big Ten (.306). List of first-team All-Pros from Vandy, per Pro Football Reference: punter Jim Arnold (once).

In the conference's official media poll, the Dores were picked to finish 13th in the 16-team SEC this year, and that wasn't an unfair pick.

But at 3-0, with blowout road wins at Virginia Tech and South Carolina, No. 20 Vandy might be a significant underdog in just three remaining games (trips to Alabama, Texas and Tennessee). Next two games should be gimmes against Utah State and Georgia State -- but to re-emphasize the Indiana-ness here, recall the Commodores lost to GSU last year.

This week, several internet consumers even noticed FPI currently rates the Dores as home favorites against LSU and Auburn later in the season. In the Massey Composite of computer ratings, Vandy ranks No. 22, ahead of contenders like Iowa State, Clemson and Texas Tech. Hey, remember when Vandy beat Alabama last year, and nearly also beat Missouri and Texas?

It's a long way from 3-0 to the 10-2 likely required for the SEC's century-long doormat to make the Playoff. But if you want another Indiana, that's what it'll take. (Now that I've said this, Rutgers will peel off eight wins in a row.)
