College football's Week 4 offers plenty of intrigue if you know where to look. Though six of the top 14 teams in the AP poll are off and several more top teams play overmatched opponents, this Saturday offers spotlight opportunities for teams trying to announce themselves as College Football Playoff contenders in a trio of ranked matchups, whether it's Texas Tech at Utah, Auburn at Oklahoma or Illinois at Indiana.

As always, Manny Navarro makes his Oddly Specific Predictions and Justin Williams counts down to the top 10 games of the week. Here's what you should know about the top five:

* No. 17 Texas Tech at No. 13 Utah (noon ET, Fox): It's expected to be a tight race for the Big 12 title, and this is a crucial early showdown at 10 a.m. local time in Salt Lake City. According to Austin Mock's projections, Iowa State has the best odds to win the conference (22 percent) and make the Playoff (45 percent), but Texas Tech (18 percent Big 12, 33 percent CFP) and Utah (16 percent Big 12, 33 percent CFP) are right there. Justin Williams writes that the Big 12 has a chance to rewrite its College Football Playoff narrative and send multiple teams to the bracket.

Texas Tech has especially been trying to rewrite its own narrative, as it has never won the Big 12 or finished ranked in the top 10. The Red Raiders spent big in the portal -- including upward of $5 million on the defensive line alone.

* No. 22 Auburn at No. 11 Oklahoma (3:30 p.m ET, ABC): Auburn and Oklahoma are both national championship programs, but they're trying to find their footing and jump into the top tier in the 16-team SEC. Saturday presents an opportunity for either the Tigers or Sooners to announce themselves as SEC title and CFP contenders. It's also a revenge game opportunity for Auburn quarterback Jackson Arnold, a five-star recruit who started nine games last year for ... Oklahoma (but did not start in the Sooners' win over Auburn).

In place of Arnold, Oklahoma brought in Washington State transfer John Mateer, who topped our preseason Transfer Portal 100 and put the Sooners on his back in a prime-time Week 2 win over Michigan. In a disappointing season thus far for several high-profile quarterbacks, Mateer has emerged as an early leading Heisman Trophy contender.

* No. 21 Michigan at Nebraska (3:30 p.m. ET, CBS): It has been 3,290 days since Nebraska last beat a team ranked in the AP poll at the time of the game (Sept. 17, 2016, against No. 22 Oregon, which went on to finish 4-8). Can the Huskers finally snap a 27-game losing streak to ranked opponents? Saturday's game may come down to the matchup of a pair of former five-star quarterbacks: Nebraska sophomore Dylan Raiola and Michigan freshman Bryce Underwood. After losing to Oklahoma, Michigan unleashed Underwood as a runner against Central Michigan in the first of two games under interim coach Biff Poggi while Sherrone Moore is suspended as a result of the Connor Stalions investigation.

For Nebraska, keep an eye on seventh-year senior linebacker Javin Wright, who's back after three bouts with blood clots and an array of injuries that have impacted his college career.

* No. 9 Illinois at No. 19 Indiana (7:30 p.m. ET, NBC): Yes, it's a rare sight, as it's Illinois vs. Indiana with numbers next to both of their names. It's the first ranked matchup between the Illini and Hoosiers since October 1950, when SMU and Army were the top two teams in the poll. Joe Rexrode believes the stature of this game and Texas Tech-Utah could be more than just an oddity this week. Illinois, in the top 10 for the first time since 2007, is trying to follow in Indiana's footsteps to crash the College Football Playoff.

* Florida at No. 4 Miami (7:30 p.m. ET, ABC): Speaking of oddities, "College GameDay" is on site for a game involving a 1-2 team. Billy Napier's Florida tenure is in trouble again, as he's 20-21 after consecutive losses to USF and LSU, the latter of which featured five interceptions by quarterback DJ Lagway and a suspension for assistant coach Jabbar Juluke because of his role in a pregame scuffle. Florida badly needs a big win in what Scott Dochterman ranked as college football's No. 58 rivalry in the summer.

Vibes have been great thus far at Miami, especially because Georgia transfer QB Carson Beck has picked up where No. 1 draft pick Cam Ward left off.

* Apologies to Michigan State fans who don't live on the West Coast -- or in Bangkok: The Spartans kick off at 11 p.m. ET at No. 25 USC on Fox on Saturday night. The Big Ten has ceded a lot of power to Fox, a relationship that has grown even more complicated after the "Big Noon Kickoff" embrace of Ohio State antagonist Dave Portnoy.

* The coaching carousel is already spinning, as Virginia Tech fired Brent Pry and UCLA fired DeShaun Foster after 0-3 starts, capped by blowout losses to Group of 5 teams. Can Virginia Tech ever recapture its past magic under Frank Beamer? Are names like Shane Beamer and Michael Vick going to be candidates?
