Fremd knew their game against Barrington was going to be an uphill battle with starting quarterback Johnny O'Brien sitting out with an injury and sophomore Will Clark filling in.

And despite leaving it all on the field, the Vikings would ultimately suffer their first loss of the season falling to the Broncos, 23-7.

Barrington received the opening possession and scored on the opening drive when quarterback Luke Tepas managed to break off a 40-yard run for the touchdown.

Next Barrington drive it looked like the Viking defense held the Broncos to a three and out, but a flag for unsportsmanlike conduct kept the drive alive and ultimately resulted in another touchdown with Lamar Osterhues scoring off a 9-yard run.

The Vikings would get a much needed spark on their next drive as Clark threw a 68-yard pass to Ben Riddle to get the Vikings into Barrington territory for the first time. After transitioning into the second quarter, Clark got Fremd on the board with a short pass to Marquan Brewster.

Barrington punted for the first time on their next drive but would still manage to put points on the board as the punt would put Fremd at the 1-yard line and Clark would scramble out of bounds resulting in a safety.

Barrington added to their lead before halftime, driving 56 yards and scoring off another Osterhues touchdown.

On the opening possession of the second half Clark would be sacked on third down and Fremd would be forced to punt.

The following drive for Fremd would see the Vikings start on their own 2-yard line and would fare better then on their first drive when Fremd started against their own end zone, driving to the Barrington 41 before Clark was sacked again resulting in another punt.

Fremd's next drive started early in the fourth quarter. The Vikings drove down to the Barrington 11 where Duke Matiyow would keep Fremd out of the end zone with an interception putting an abrupt end to the drive.

The Viking defense would hold Barrington to 41 yards after the interception, but first play back, Clark was intercepted a second time, which would be the final possession for Fremd.

"We said whatever the final result is, we are going to be able to look each other in the eye and know we went out and fought for each other and battled with everything we had to try and get the win," said Fremd coach Lou Sponsel. "Johnny is still day to day. I know it's Barrington and we wanted to win this one but at the same time you have to keep the big picture in mind and ultimately plan for November."
