Stanford men's basketball just landed its prime recruiting target for its 2026 class, and he comes with a Hall of Fame pedigree.

Aziz Olajuwon, son of NBA Hall of Famer Hakeem Olajuwon, announced his commitment to the Cardinal on Saturday over Vanderbilt, Cincinnati, and his father's alma mater, Houston.

Olajuwon is a four-star-rated recruit at the small forward position from high-profile IMG Academy in Florida. His commitment adds to an already stellar 2026 class for Stanford and head coach Kyle Smith -- a class that includes four-star guard Isaiah Rogers.

"I chose Stanford because it's a perfect balance of elite academics and high-level basketball," Olajuwon told the Athletic in his commitment announcement. "... The culture and tradition at Stanford really stood out to me."

Olajuwon, who stands at 6 feet, 7 inches, is considered a top-40 recruit nationally by ESPN and ranked No. 61 overall by 247 Sports.

According to the Athletic, Olajuwon projects as a potential starter from Day 1 in Palo Alto, with his NBA-ready size and his ability to score at three levels being seamless fits in Smith's system.

The good news may not stop there for Stanford either, as Olajuwon's teammate at IMG Academy, 7-foot-1-inch center Maxime Meyer, also has the Cardinal in his current top schools list, which includes Saint Mary's in Moraga and Ohio State, among others.

It's possible that Olajuwon could help recruit Meyer, who's also a four-star prospect for 2026, to Palo Alto. If Stanford lands Meyer, along with Olajuwon and Rogers, it could be the biggest recruiting coup for a Bay Area basketball program since rival Cal landed its own heralded class back in 2015 -- a class that featured current NBA star Jaylen Brown and four-star prospect Ivan Rabb, who attended high school at Bishop O'Dowd in Oakland.

Olajuwon, via the Athletic, delivered a message to hype up Stanford fans about his pledge to the Cardinal.

"Get ready, we're building something special. I can't wait to put on the Stanford jersey, compete at the highest level, and give everything I have for the program and the fans. The future is bright, and I'm excited to be a part of it."
