Cumulative net profit rises 6.5% year-on-year, while third-quarter profit dips 2.1%

Hana Financial Group recorded a net profit exceeding 3.4 trillion Korean won through the third quarter of this year, marking its highest-ever performance.

Hana Financial announced on the 28th that its cumulative net profit (on a controlling interest basis) for the first three quarters reached 3.4334 trillion won, a 6.5% increase from the same period last year (3.2254 trillion won). The net profit for the third quarter alone was 1.1324 trillion won, a 2.1% decrease from the third quarter of last year (1.1566 trillion won).

The group's cumulative interest income for the first three quarters was 6.7803 trillion won, up 3.1% from the same period last year (6.5774 trillion won). This growth was driven by increased loan assets, particularly at its banking unit, and improved net interest margins (NIM). Hana Financial and Hana Bank's NIM for the third quarter were 1.74% and 1.50%, respectively, rising by 0.01 percentage point and 0.02 percentage point from the previous quarter.

Non-interest income reached 2.0259 trillion won, a 12.2% increase from the same period last year (1.8049 trillion won). Fee income grew by 6.7% to 1.6504 trillion won, while gains from securities and foreign exchange derivatives trading surged 19.5% to 1.1195 trillion won.

As of the end of the third quarter, the group's non-performing loan (NPL) ratio was 0.73%, and its delinquency rate was 0.57%, each improving by 0.02 percentage point from the previous quarter. Key performance metrics included a return on equity (ROE) of 10.60% and a return on assets (ROA) of 0.72%. The estimated common equity tier 1 (CET1) ratio was 13.30%.

By subsidiary, Hana Bank reported a cumulative net profit of 3.1333 trillion won for the first three quarters. Hana Card followed with 170 billion won, Hana Securities with 169.6 billion won, Hana Capital with 64.1 billion won, Hana Asset Trust with 36.9 billion won, and Hana Life Insurance with 17.7 billion won.

As part of its shareholder return policy, Hana Financial's board resolved to repurchase and cancel 150 billion won worth of treasury shares and distribute a quarterly cash dividend of 920 won per share. Including the 653.1 billion won already repurchased through the third quarter, the total treasury share buybacks for this year will reach 803.1 billion won. Combined with the previously announced 1 trillion won in cash dividends for the year, the total shareholder return for 2025 will amount to 1.8031 trillion won, the largest in the group's history.
