ITV has finally revived a classic eighties comedy after pleas from fans - but has left them livid by immediately slapping the show with a trigger warning.

Thomas Derbyshire and Bobby Ball are best known as double act Cannon and Ball who shot to fame in the 70s.

Some of their best programmes include The Cannon and Ball Show, Cannon and Ball's Playhouse and Cannon and Ball's Casino.

Now they are back on our screens with a 41-minute episode called Cannon and Ball - which has hit the streaming service as part of ITV's 70th celebrations.

The synopsis reads: 'Double act Tommy Cannon and Bobby Ball entertain us with their own unique brand of humour.

'The programmes feature various sketch shows along with many celebrity guests.'

The streaming service adds: 'As part of ITV's 70th birthday celebrations, enjoy the famous duo Tommy Cannon and Bobby Ball as they entertain us with their own unique brand of humour.'

However there is also a warning which states: 'This classic British comedy reflects the attitudes and language of its time,' as well as the option to turn on parental controls.

Many weren't impressed with the situation, with one saying on Facebook: 'Shouldn't have had to fight for it, ITV are both disrespectful and stupid! But so pleased they have seen sense.'

'FINALLY. Took ITV long enough to put them on there.'

'Good, but left it too late... Was a huge insult leaving them out.'

But Tommy had to wait a while for this to happen, but last week he shared his excitement when they were finally added to the streaming service to celebrate their big birthday.

Daily Mail contacted ITV for comment.

Tommy described his fans as 'lovely people' after 'making it happen'

'It means the world to see me and Bobby back where we belong -- making people laugh. You lot never stopped asking, never stopped caring. This one's for you. Rock on, Tommy x.'

Two days prior he said on the social media platform: 'You're not gonna believe this people! THE best of Cannon and Ball is now on @ITVX - you lovely people made this happen.'

Many shared their excitement with the news and rushed to his tweet with lovely responses.

'Fabulous! I am so pleased to see this. Shame it comes with a G warning but still, It's about time.'

'Brilliant news Tommy. Good comedy never fades.'

'Ah this is fabulous stuff. I love watching clips of you and Bobby on various sites but this is brilliant.'

'Shouldn't have been excluded in the first place. Well done on this Tommy, Bobby would be well pleased.'

Tommy said: 'Cannon & Ball gave it everything. We were the wallpaper, not just the furniture. To be left out of the celebration? That hurts'

But last month Tommy said: '70 years of ITV. Cannon & Ball gave it everything. We were the wallpaper, not just the furniture. To be left out of the celebration?

'That hurts. Not for me -- but for Bobby. For the fans. For the legacy. We made millions laugh. That should've counted.'

A few days later he added: 'As @ITV continues it celebrations , I've been reflecting on the legacy -- and the silence.

'I'd be happy to have a proper conversation about what's happened and what we can do.

'That only works if ITV's willing to talk. Thanks for the tweets. Your support means everything to me.'

Tommy's partner in crime, Bobby, passed away on 28 October 2020.
