Manchester United's woes show no signs of abating. Despite splashing out over £200million on new recruits in the summer, the club has yet to see a return on its investment.

After a shocking second-round Carabao Cup exit at the hands of League Two outfit Grimsby Town, United were soundly beaten 3-0 in last weekend's Manchester Derby. Supporters and pundits had essentially written off the previous season, where manager Ruben Amorim guided the club to their worst-ever Premier League finish in 15th place and suffered defeat in the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur.

However, despite his high-profile new signings, Amorim's luck hasn't turned around. He now holds the dubious honour of having the lowest win percentage of any permanent United manager since World War II, following an 18th loss in his 47-game tenure on Sunday.

The head coach is under immense pressure ahead of Saturday's showdown with Chelsea at Old Trafford. As speculation about his potential dismissal grows, here's all the latest news surrounding Amorim and the club, including controversial co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

According to French outlet Ici, United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is set to put OGC Nice up for sale. Ratcliffe and INEOS purchased Nice for a cool £89m (€100m) in 2019, sparking hope among fans that their financial backing would help the club challenge Paris Saint-Germain's domestic league dominance.

However, that hasn't materialised, with Nice struggling to climb above fourth place under INEOS' ownership, reports the Mirror.

Rumours intensified about Ratcliffe looking to offload the club in March this year, when the billionaire confessed to The Times that he didn't particularly relish watching Nice because the standard of football wasn't "high enough" for him to get thrilled.

He also acknowledged that Nice's finest season was the previous campaign, when INEOS were compelled to take a more hands-off approach due to multi-club ownership regulations, conceding: "They've been so much better without our interference!"

It's now been suggested that Ratcliffe has placed Nice on the market, having allegedly abandoned the club since becoming United's minority shareholder and spearheading its football operations. The aforementioned report claims Sir Jim is demanding £173m to sever ties with the French outfit.

Things are looking up financially at United however. They have reported record revenues in their latest set of financial results, for the 2025 fiscal fourth quarter and 12 months ended June 30, 2025 - achieving quarter four revenues of £164.1million, which contributed to record fiscal 2025 total revenues of £666.5million.

The beginning of a new shirt sponsorship deal with 'Snapdragon' enabled United to post record commercial revenue of £333.3m, while match day revenue was also a record £160.3m in the year to June 30.

United may delay dismissing head coach Amorim, even if they conclude he isn't the right figure to guide the team through to the season's end.

The Portuguese penned a two-and-a-half-year deal with the Red Devils less than 12 months ago on wages of £6.5m-per-season. His contract also includes a 12-month extension, having been hastily appointed after United shelled out £9.2m to Sporting to release him from his contract.

According to the Daily Mail, if the club were to sack the 40 year old before he completes a year in the job, they would have to cough up £12m in compensation.

His coaching team would also be entitled to a severance package. This could lead Ratcliffe and INEOS to delay any decision to sack him until after November 1, when his payout will reduce, potentially resulting in significant savings.

The next three matches against Chelsea, Brentford and Sunderland could essentially be Amorim's last chance to secure his position.

Meanwhile, Ratcliffe will be keen to save money, given that the club has already paid an eye-watering total of over £54m in compensation for the five managers they've sacked since Sir Alex Ferguson left.

In other news, Newcastle are reportedly monitoring Kobbie Mainoo's situation and could swoop for the midfielder in the January transfer window. Eddie Howe is known to be a fan of the player, according to talkSPORT.

Mainoo, 20, was keen to leave United ahead of transfer deadline day after losing his spot in the starting line-up under Amorim. However, the Red Devils prevented their academy graduate from completing a potential £50m move to Napoli, where Scott McTominay has flourished since leaving United.

The young player was once more left on the bench during Sunday's 3-0 loss in the Manchester Derby. This will have only compounded his frustrations, having played a mere 73 minutes in the Premier League this season, despite being a regular starter under former manager Erik ten Hag.
