Next weekend's college football schedule is chock-full of intriguing matchups, but several playoff contenders notched high-profile wins in Week 4.

Oklahoma and emerging Heisman contender John Mateer improved to 4-0 by holding off Auburn, while Indiana and QB Fernando Mendoza absolutely punished No. 9 Illinois. Texas Tech also came up big Saturday, scoring 21 unanswered points to pull away from Utah despite losing starting quarterback Behren Morton to injury.

What did it all mean for some of the draft prospects in those games? Our experts, Dane Brugler and Nick Baumgardner, tackled that question.

Dane Brugler: It was another positive building block for Mateer. And as he continues to stack games like this, he undoubtedly is helping himself in the eyes of NFL teams. What scouts will like about this performance, in particular, is the fourth quarter. After Auburn scored a go-ahead touchdown midway through the final frame, Mateer made a perfect bucket-drop toss on a slot fade for 31 yards, setting up his own 9-yard, game-winning touchdown scamper on the very next play.

Nick Baumgardner: I think this was a nice day for Mateer, who has proven twice now -- against Auburn and Michigan -- that he'll show up and make big plays in critical moments against top-end competition. He can be a roller coaster with his accuracy, and he narrowly avoided a few messes early, but he also took care of the football and completed nearly 70 percent of his passes. He's tough, and that's hard to ignore.

Elsewhere, some of the big guns showed up for Oklahoma defensively. R Mason Thomas only played a half but wound up with two huge sacks; Gracen Halton and Marvin Jones Jr. each made plays up front; Kendal Daniels and Peyton Bowen did the same. This felt like a great day for Brent Venables' program.

Brugler: With 10 sacks, the Oklahoma pass rush consistently pressured Auburn QB Jackson Arnold, whose methodical tendencies in the pocket hurt him. But Thomas' return after he had to sit out the first half because of a targeting flag last week really amplified the Sooners' attack.

Thomas registered a sack on his first drive in action, then put an exclamation point on the win by sacking Arnold for a safety on Auburn's final drive. Thomas (6 feet 2, 249 pounds) is undersized by NFL standards, but his burst off the ball creates conflict for blockers. He can convert speed to power or capture the corner. A projected second-round pick, Mason debuted at No. 44 on my preseason top 50 -- and he made an impact in this game.

I also have to mention Auburn star wide receiver Cam Coleman. He finished with three catches for 88 yards and one touchdown, but those numbers could easily have been tripled with better quarterback play. Coleman, a true sophomore, is not eligible until the 2027 NFL Draft, but we'll be talking about him as a potential top-10 pick when the time comes.

Brugler: Mendoza started the season ranked No. 20 on my board, and (so far) he has lived up to that lofty ranking. In a wide-open quarterback class, he has made a strong case for "QB1" status.

Mendoza is a great fit for Indiana's offensive structure, because it meshes with his strengths. He is very cerebral with a good feel for touch as a passer, and the Hoosiers' offense allows him to use the entire field with poise and precision. With good size and a fluid arm, Mendoza can play inside or outside of structure and doesn't panic under pressure.

Over the last two seasons, he has thrown for 14 touchdowns and zero interceptions when blitzed -- numbers that help illustrate his mental processing pre-snap and execution post-snap. Scouts will be circling upcoming games at Oregon (Oct. 11) and Penn State (Nov. 8) as monumental opportunities for Mendoza and the Hoosiers.

Baumgardner: Mendoza definitely had some choppy moments over the first few weeks, but he's improved pretty quickly in a new system. Since spraying the ball all over the place in Indiana's season opener, he has been incredibly accurate.

Indiana's first three games were all against low-end competition. And as stout as Illinois had been early this season, the Hoosiers' 63-10 win Saturday did come at home. Things will get more challenging. But much like Indiana did with Kurtis Rourke early last season, Cignetti and company have done a great job steadily bringing Mendoza along while adding more and more to the offense each week.

Mendoza is a more talented prospect than Rourke was. If the same type of development continues, Mendoza's preseason hype will be warranted.

Brugler: The feedback from NFL scouts this summer was pretty mixed on McAlister, regarding his approach both on the field and off. If he continues to put this kind of play on tape, though, it will certainly help teams overlook some of his shortcomings and bet on the strengths. (Although, it is fair to point out that the SMU defense is going to make a lot of wide receivers look good this year.)

McAlister has a good-sized, linear frame with adequate athleticism and the play strength to be an outside receiver. He does a nice job framing the football and showed off his body balance and run strength while breaking tackles Saturday. This one performance won't put him in the top 100 -- he entered the season with mostly late-round grades -- but it will inspire scouts to show him more love.

Baumgardner: McAlister was a pretty steady big-play weapon for TCU last season, despite finishing with just 39 targets, and he will continue to entice scouts with his blend of size and explosion. He can be a monster in the air, and -- as we saw more than once Saturday -- he has enough speed to separate, both before and after the catch.

The 2027 draft is going to be absolutely dripping with talent with wide receiver talent, but the 2026 class has very few proven prospects. If McCalister can stack productive performances and have a nice run on the pre-draft circuit, he can shoot up boards.

Brugler: Most of the defensive players in my early top 50 have underwhelmed. Clemson's Peter Woods hasn't impacted games like one would expect for a player with his talent. His teammate, T.J. Parker, isn't doing much to convince NFL teams he belongs in the top half of Round 1. Florida's Caleb Banks has been hurt. We could go on and on and on.

On the other end of things, Ohio State safety Caleb Downs has been as advertised. But in terms of "most impressive" through four weeks, I'll go with Miami edge rusher Rueben Bain Jr., because he looks so much better than what he put on last year's tape. Densely built with terrific play strength, Bain is a force in the run game and can get to the quarterback in different ways. NFL teams will feel very comfortable with his floor as a starter.

Baumgardner: Texas Tech edge David Bailey picked up another sack Saturday versus Utah, giving him four in the season's first month. He entered the Utah game with 20 pressures, tied for No. 1 nationally, and an impressive win rate of 17.2 percent. Bailey has a chance to pass the pressure and sack totals he put up last year at Stanford by Halloween.

At 6-3, 250, he's never going to be gigantic. But he's a former 220-pounder who still moves like one and could turn major heads on the all-star circuit come winter -- if not before, as the Red Raiders are off to a great start.

Brugler: Unfortunately, this was a missed opportunity. NFL scouts were eager to see Morton in this game, because Utah might be the best defense Texas Tech faces all season. Morton was underwhelming, though. Most of his 142 passing yards came after the catch and two poor, underthrown balls resulted in interceptions.

Hopefully, he can return for Texas Tech's next game (Oct. 4 at Houston), but he's battled injuries for much of his Red Raiders tenure and durability concerns will follow him into the draft process. He was graded as a mid-Day 3 prospect with backup potential coming into the season, and I don't think that has changed through four games.

Baumgardner: It was a bummer to see him go down, because Morton has been very good for the Red Raiders so far. He's been accurate and aggressive in the middle of the field -- nearly 30 percent of his completions entering Saturday had gone for 20 yards or more.

We'll see how his health holds up. As Dane mentioned, that's a major concern as he's not very big. I still think he's a Day 3 prospect, but if he can stack days and stay healthy from here, I wouldn't rule out anything.
