Four statement wins in Week 2 solidified two distinct power tiers at the top of the odds board for MVP.

Tier 1 is still the Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson show. Jackson is back up with Allen after sliding behind him following Week 1's loss. The two votes-leaders from last year are now tied at +325 on BetMGM, or a nearly 25 percent probability of winning. It's too early to say if anyone can truly challenge the Allen-Jackson dominance, but ... it'll take quite a shift to knock these two out of the top. (I bet Alan Jackson's SEO is a mess!)

If anyone can challenge them, they may be found in our Tier 2, which welcomes two new faces into the top four: Justin Herbert and Jordan Love at +800, a roughly 11 percent implied probability.

The good news for Herbert and Love means bad news for a few others who opened in the top few favorites: Patrick Mahomes slid from third place (+700 opening odds) to sixth (+1800). CJ Stroud has had perhaps the worst slide of anyone not named Joe Burrow, opening in seventh and now is 15th. Tough to be a Texan right now.

The biggest movement in the MVP odds this week is, of course, the biggest bummer: Burrow went from +750 odds behind only Allen and Jackson to off the board when he went out in Week 2 with a toe injury. He was the most-bet MVP candidate before that cruel plot twist.

The obvious winners of Week 2 were Herbert and Love.

Though let's not get it twisted: The Bills' 30-10 win over the Jets and the Ravens' eye-popping 41-17 win over the Browns were dominant and definitive. But they were also expected (not quite at those point spreads!), and the odds for their QB stars didn't move too significantly for this early in the season. The biggest move there was Jackson lofting himself back into the top tier with Allen after trailing at +550 to Allen's +310 after Week 1.

But the Chargers' Monday night win over the Raiders cemented the idea that they are a formidable Super Bowl contender. Sportsbooks had a modicum of faith in the Chargers to win that game, but a 3-point spread showed restrained expectations. Their 11-point victory late on Monday slotted Herbert into the top four MVP candidates on the strength of a 19-of-27, 242-yard, zero-interception game. Herbert opened ninth in MVP odds at +2500 (implied 4 percent winning chance), moved to +1500 before Monday night's game, and is now at +800 behind just Allen and Jackson.

As for Jordan Love, the new-look Green Bay Packers have been the belle of the early-season ball. A Week 1 domination of the formerly indomitable Lions and a Week 2 handling of a solid Commanders team put any doubts aside about this era of the Packers. Love had a 292-yard game against Washington And perhaps the biggest change for Love's odds is the simple fact that he's now the lead of one of the top Super Bowl contenders. The Packers are third in Super Bowl odds (+650) behind the Bills (+500) and Ravens (+550).

Another QB whose injury is affecting MVP odds is Brock Purdy, who fell from +2500 (25-to-1) last week to +10000 (100-to-1) heading into Week 3, where he is still currently listed as out with a similar injury to Burrow.

Mahomes is 0-2 for the first time in his career as the Chiefs' starter, and the panic meter is blinking for the Chiefs. While you can never count out a Mahomes-led team in the playoffs, the MVP award is for the regular season, and that is off to a rough start. Mahomes (who celebrates his birthday tomorrow, sorry for this one, buddy) was at +1000 odds heading into the Week 2 game against their Super Bowl rivals, and is now +1800 after that 20-17 loss.

Baker Mayfield (+2000), Matthew Stafford (+3500) and Aaron Rodgers (+5000) have all been steadily rising, but would have to have some real breakout moments to challenge the top four.
