Victim Married Woman Hours After Blind Date, Lost Savings Within Month

Hong Kong's South China Morning Post, SCMP, reported on the 27th that a Chinese man in his 40s was swindled out of 50 million Korean won by a woman he married four hours after a blind date, within a month.

According to the report, Hwang Jung-cheng, a native of Hengyang in southern China's Hunan Province, went on a blind date on the morning of August 21 of last month. During the blind date process, nine matchmakers introduced him to a woman working at a beauty salon.

In an interview with Hunan Broadcasting, Hwang said, "On the way to the blind date location, eight matchmakers suddenly appeared," and added, "Including someone from our village, a total of nine people recommended the same woman."

The two met in person and registered their marriage four hours later. Hwang said, "She insisted that everything had to be finalized on the same day," and added, "So we went to register the marriage around 5 p.m." He further remarked, "Everything happened too quickly, and I was dazed all day."

He stated, "The night we registered the marriage was the only time we stayed at a hotel and spent an intimate moment together," and added, "After that, whenever I tried to hug her, she pushed me away."

Hwang claimed, "From just two days after we started living together, she urged me to go to Guangdong Province to earn money," and added, "She also requested financial support under various pretexts, saying she needed to borrow money."

Ultimately, within just a month of their marriage, the 240,000 yuan (approximately 50 million Korean won) that Hwang had were completely depleted.

Hwang revealed, "Usually, she didn't reply even if I contacted her, but whenever she did reach out, it was always about money. For example, she requested funds for the Qixi Festival (China's Valentine's Day), and on September 6, she asked me to buy a computer."

Hwang stated, "She spent all 240,000 yuan by herself. We met through a blind date on August 21, and by September 8, less than a month later, she had already spent it all."

Regarding this incident, Chinese social media (SNS) saw reactions such as, "He should file a lawsuit, and the nine matchmakers should also be prosecuted," and "This is essentially a joint scam."
