Government to compile Honam region researchers' feedback on evaluation reforms, administrative simplification, and funding structure

The Ministry of Science and ICT will hold a 'Research Site (Honam Region) Meeting for Research and Development Innovation' at Chonnam National University on the 27th. This event aims to gather on-site opinions from researchers to establish the government's ongoing 'Research and Development (R&D) Ecosystem Innovation Plan.'

The meeting will include over 70 participants, such as Kim Yong-beom, presidential chief of staff for policy, and Park In-gyu, Head of the Science and Technology Innovation Headquarters at the Ministry of Science and ICT, along with key researchers and research administrative personnel from the Honam region.

The government has set a core goal of creating an environment where researchers can challenge themselves in creative research without fear of failure. To this end, it has collected on-site opinions through an online platform called 'Everyone's R&D,' private advisory groups, and regional meetings.

This meeting is the fifth and final session this year. Previously, the government discussed various improvement measures -- such as reforming evaluation systems, simplifying administrative processes, and providing predictable research funding -- through thematic and regional on-site meetings.

During the meeting, after presentations on major policy directions, participants will discuss issues faced in actual research settings and institutional improvement plans. Key agenda items include ▲innovating evaluation systems to support challenging research ▲reducing administrative burdens ▲and establishing a demand-driven R&D investment structure.

Park In-gyu, Head of the Science and Technology Innovation Headquarters, stated, "In the era of technological hegemony led by AI and advanced technologies, creativity and a spirit of challenge are the core of R&D competitiveness. We will transition from a government-led approach to an autonomous and sustainable ecosystem driven by researchers."

The Ministry of Science and ICT plans to compile the opinions from this meeting and officially announce the 'R&D Ecosystem Innovation Plan' in November.
