iPhone users are floored after discovering their yearly screen time usage, with many not wanting to face the true figure. We live in a technological era, with the majority of daily essentials - from banking and emails to contact with friends and more - all stored on our phones.

Many people discuss the practice of "doom-scrolling" or "falling down an internet hole" and losing hours of time continuously scrolling through their phones. Somewhat ironically, a more in depth discussion on screen time has been sparked by a video shared on TikTok.

In the clip, a woman named Lejla, 27, shared her shocked reaction to another social media user's screen time. Over the top of the footage, Lejla, from New Jersey, added text which reads: "Saw a girl on here that calculated her total screen time for 2025... It's at 130 days".

In the caption, she added: "Checked mine and I'm SICK. Phone free fall starts tomorrow." The video has so far been viewed more than 5.4 million times.

In the comments section, people were keen to share their thoughts with several sharing it had sparked introspection while others joked about avoiding the knowledge entirely.

One person said: "I won't be doing this for personal reasons".

Another said: "81 days I'm good (let's just ignore my screen time on my iPad)".

A third quipped: "I choose my good night sleep over this info thanks".

A fourth shared: "Okay so apparently mine's 228... I think I've done something wrong".

Someone else commented: "I think it's better for me if I don't know actually".

iPhone users can check their screen time via the Settings app. Scroll down to find Screen Time then tap it to see your daily average.

If you want further insight, you can click "see all app and website activity" which offers a detailed breakdown of your usage, most used apps and their categories, as well as your notifications, by day or by week.

In Screen Time, iPhone users can schedule "downtime" to help prompt time away from their screen, or app limits to set a period of time where certain apps can be used.

Lejla, who didn't want to share her full name, told Newsweek: "I'm an iPhone user, so I check my screen time directly in my settings. You can tap on 'Screen Time' to review your daily and weekly reports.

"Unfortunately, Apple doesn't store this data long-term, so you can only see reports from about the past week. That said, there are ways to keep track over time."

Lejla is now using apps that track her usage as she's keen to get her screen time down.

If you'd like a year-long summary of your screen time, you'll need to manually export your data or use third-party apps - such as OffScreen or RealizD - or iOS Shortcuts which can generate personalised recaps by accessing your Screen Time data.

Lejla added: "Those tools can be really eye-opening if you're trying to be more intentional with your phone use. Right now, my screen time averages about six hours a day, and I've been actively working on bringing that number down.

"One of my personal goals for the new year is to cut it in half and be more present offline."
