Foreign, institutional buying lifts KOSPI to 3,620; individuals sell 448B won as KOSDAQ climbs 1.46%

The KOSPI index rose nearly 2% during morning trading on the 15th, fluctuating around the 3,620 level.

As of 11:25 a.m. the same day, the KOSPI stood at 3,627.75, up 65.94 points (1.85%) from the previous day. In the stock market, foreign and institutional investors turned to buying during the session, with net purchases of 250 billion Korean won and 417 billion Korean won, respectively. Individual investors were the only net sellers, offloading 448 billion Korean won worth of stocks.

Eight of the top 10 market-cap-weighted stocks are gaining. Shares of Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, Samsung Biologics, and Doosan Enerbility are rising. Conversely, LG Energy Solution and Hyundai Motor are underperforming.

Hanwha Ocean, which plummeted the previous day due to news of Chinese sanctions, rebounded over 3%. This followed analyses from securities firms stating the measures would have minimal impact on domestic shipbuilding businesses. HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and Samsung Heavy Industries are also seeing their shares rise.

At the same time, the KOSDAQ index rose 12.39 points (1.46%) to 860.35 compared to the previous trading day. In the KOSDAQ market, foreign and institutional investors are net buyers of 40 billion Korean won and 300 billion Korean won, respectively. Individual investors are net sellers of 330 billion Korean won worth of stocks.

Eight of the top 10 market-cap-weighted stocks in the KOSDAQ market are rising. Alteogen, EcoPro BM, Rainbow Robotics, PharmaResearch, and Peptron are trading higher than the previous day. Conversely, HLB and Sam Chun Dang Pharm are underperforming.

In the Seoul foreign exchange market, the won-dollar exchange rate stood at 1,424.80 Korean won, down 5.7 won from the previous trading day.
