A couple set to say "I do" at a four star hotel have said they are "devastated and losing sleep" after the venue went into administration.

Richianna Davidson, 50, and Paul Foxon, 42, from Aspley, Nottingham were due to get married at Nottingham Belfry in October.

The couple said they had spent all of their savings on a deluxe wedding package and paid their £9,500 balance in full.

A spokesperson for Nottingham Belfry said the couple should get a full refund but could not confirm when the funds would be transferred.

Richianna and Paul got engaged in 2018 and said they had spent the last eight years saving hard for their dream wedding.

"This was the perfect place.

"It's accessible for our older relatives, it's got rooms so everyone can stay and it's really nice.

"I booked the Deluxe package which included almost everything, the DJ, catering, decor," Richianna said.

She added that they wanted to tie the knot in October as "Paul's nan isn't very well".

"We don't know how long she's got left and we wanted to make sure she's still around to be part of it," Richianna added.

The couple said they felt they were in a "Catch-22" situation as they are unable to book a new venue without a refund.

"I was getting married to the woman I love and I was going to have all of my family there.

"I'm devastated now all of that's in question," Paul said.

The company operating the Nottingham Belfry on Mellor's Way, Strelley, instructed administrators from FRP on 7 January.

Documents filed by FRP to Companies House stated the company had been profitable since 2021 but when rent payments were taken into consideration it was "considerably loss-making".

The company ceased trading on Tuesday with immediate effect and all of its 115 staff were made redundant.

Richianna and Paul said they heard the news after a friend sent them a post on social media.

"I have had an email and one phone call but that's not enough. They've got all of my money, they need to tell me something.

"I'm so angry, so frustrated and very tired with it all," Paul said.

A spokesperson for Nottingham Belfry said a refund of the full £9,500 is set to go through but they could not confirm how long it would take.

"We have offered some super venues within the QHotels Group with some great incentives," the spokesperson added.

The couple said they had looked at some of the other options but will need to see if they are suitable.

"They're fine but not the place we wanted to get married and even if they were we couldn't possibly pay for it yet.

"All I know is I will never pay for anything in advance again," Richianna said.
