On the 25th, Samsung Electronics announced that in its 2026 regular executive reshuffle, two managing directors in their 30s and five vice presidents in their 40s were promoted. Compared to last year (one managing director in their 30s and eight vice presidents in their 40s), the scale of promotions slightly decreased. In the DX Division, responsible for complete product businesses, and Samsung Research, promotions occurred in AI and robotics. The DS Division, handling semiconductor businesses, saw vice presidents in their 40s promoted in core areas like HBM and the foundry business, identified as a weakness.

Promotions in the DX Division were concentrated in AI and robotics. Kim Moon-soo, 45, head of the VD Division's Software Commercialization Development Group, was promoted to vice president for advancing the Tizen platform, Samsung's core TV operating system, and securing AI TV technologies. Lee Kang-woon, 39, a managing director promoted in his 30s, led foundational model development for product differentiation and productivity enhancement in generative AI language and code models under the DX Division.

The DX Division, overseeing complete product businesses, is applying AI technology across all products, not just smartphones. In robotics, Kwon Jeong-hyun, 45, head of Samsung Research's Robot Intelligence Team, was promoted to vice president in his 40s. Samsung Electronics noted his leadership in securing key technological competitiveness in AI-based recognition and manipulation for robotics. Positioning robotics as a next-generation growth engine, Samsung combines strategic investments and in-house R&D. In December of last year, it became the largest shareholder of Rainbow Robotics, a domestic robotics company, by increasing its stake to 35% via call options.

The DS Division promoted vice presidents in their 40s in HBM, foundry (a weakness), and semiconductor defect inspection. Lee Byung-hyun, 48, head of the Memory Business Division's DRAM PA2 Group, was promoted for leading 10-nanometer-class 6th-generation (1c) and 6th-generation HBM (HBM4) development. Samsung, which lagged in HBM behind SK Hynix and Micron, focused on regaining competitiveness in HBM4. His promotion is linked to entering NVIDIA's HBM4 supply chain, which holds over 60% of market demand.

Lee Kang-ho, 48, head of the Foundry Business Division's PA3 Team, and Jeong Yong-deok, 49, head of the Global Manufacturing & Infrastructure Headquarters' MI Technology Team, were also promoted. Vice President Lee drove new foundry technologies like photonics, while Vice President Jeong, a semiconductor metrology and defect inspection expert, focuses on mass production competitiveness. Promoting vice presidents in their 40s to address the foundry division's annual trillion Korean won-scale deficits and yield issues is seen as a move to strengthen weaknesses.

Samsung Electronics explained, "Regardless of seniority or hierarchy, we boldly selected managing directors in their 30s and vice presidents in their 40s who significantly contributed to performance and possess growth potential, thereby strengthening the pool of future management candidates."
