Upmarket steakhouse Hawksmoor is moving into one of London's grandest dining rooms.

Hawksmoor St Pancras will be the group's eighth UK restaurant joining branches in Manchester, Liverpool, Edinburgh and London.

The new venue will be at the St Pancras Hotel and will boast the brand's first chef's table and a new Martini bar in the Grade I listed space.

The iconic hotel is a byword for Victorian Gothic grandeur and was built by architect George Gilbert Scott to put up travellers arriving into St Pancras Station.

When it opened in 1873 as The Midland Grand Hotel it was the last word in luxury with a grand staircase and fireplaces and gold leaf in every bedroom.

It closed in 1935 and was used as rail offices before falling into disrepair, until a campaign to rescue it from demolition brought it back to life.

Since June this year, the five star hotel has been owned by the Marriott group and boasts the Grand Dining Room, which previously ran under Marcus Wareing as The Gilbert Scott and most recently as the Midland Grand Dining Room helmed by Victor Garvey.

Now the 95 seat restaurant will be serving Hawksmoor's signature British steaks and seafood.

Posting on Instagram, they said founders Will & Huw "have always dreamed of opening" at the venue: "Hawksmoor is opening a new London restaurant - and not just anywhere, but inside one of the city's most jaw-dropping dining rooms. Hawksmoor St Pancras, in the Grade I-listed masterpiece by Victorian Gothic Revival legend Sir George Gilbert Scott (we LOVE a bit of architectural heritage!)

"We couldn't imagine a more iconic spot. Expect 95 covers, a private dining room, a chef's table (a global Hawksmoor first), all set in one of the most dramatic buildings in the city.

"AND - we're also taking over the extraordinary Gothic Bar, soon to be the Hawksmoor Martini Bar: a gloriously decorative, high-ceilinged hangout with a terrace, a DJ booth, and an army of bartenders making the coldest Martinis in London."

Hawksmoor's debut restaurant opened in Spitalfields in 2006 and is named after the architect Nicholas Hakwsmoor who designed the nearby Christ Church.

Childhood friends Will Beckett and Huw Gott are committed to serving the best tasting beef from traditional grass fed British breeds - with signature dishes include Sunday roasts, roasted scallops with garlic and tarragon, smoked salmon with Guinness bread, and Porterhouse steak with triple cooked chips.
