A HOTEL in Frodsham has been given permission to build padel courts on its site by Cheshire West and Chester Council.

The Best Western Forest Hills Hotel, in Bellemonte Road, was given approval to create the three courts which its owners say could also 'benefit the wider community'.

The proposal for the plans was submitted around six months ago to council planners but on Monday, October 6, approval was given.

According to a design and access statement, the plans are also for surrounding fencing panels.

It said: "The application involves the using derelict hard standing land that was used for overflow parking by the hotel and use a part of this land to create three padel courts with surround fencing.

"Padel tennis is one of the fastest growing sports in the world with the unique fact that has an extremely low barrier to entry for anyone to come along and play.

"We believe adding the courts to the facility will benefit the wider community."

It added: "The three padel courts will be all in accordance with the standard of the international padel federation.

"They will have three-metre-high glass panels at rear of each court plus a further four metre in length at sides with a further metre high steel mesh fencing over.

"The remaining sides will have three-metre-high steel mesh fencing.

"Each Padel Court will be 20m x 10m, with single security glass at each end plus a further four metres in length each side corner with the remaining walls in steel mesh fencing, galvanised and power coated in colour black.

"The floor will be in artificial turf colour green and all in accordance with the standard of the International Padel Federation.

"An electronic gate system will be installed with the new surrounding fencing fiving pay and play access to the players."

Cheshire West planning officer Emily Yates approved the proposal.

In her report, she said: "The proposal seeks to utilise a piece of underused land in association with the existing hotel for padel courts, an appropriate use within the Green Belt.

"Subject to conditions and taking into account the provisions of the development plan and all other material planning considerations, it is recommended that planning permission be granted."

One condition requested but not outlined was from Frodsham Town Council in relation to no play on Remembrance Sunday because of the close proximity of the war memorial.

The courts will be open from 8am-10pm Monday to Friday and 8am until 7pm Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays.
